The incident took place yesterday, police said.
Sunia Bai (65), the victim, asked her son Viapatlal Gond (45) to serve her food, but he refused. This led to a heated exchange between the two.
In the heat of the moment, Viapatlal, who was drunk, hacked his mother to death, said Chunamani Shukla, in-charge of Kindrai police station.
The woman died on the spot. Viapatlal's wife and daughter were not home at the time of the incident.
Neighbours heard the old woman's screams and rushed to the house. They informed the police about the murder who arrested Vipatlal from the spot.
Police have registered a case of murder against him.
