Dry cold spell continues in Himachal Pradesh

Dry cold spell continued in parts of Himachal Pradesh as strong chilly winds sweptthe higher hills and tribal populated areas, further intensifying the cold wave conditions.
The high altitude tribal areas and high mountain passes reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with mercury staying between -5 and -10 degree Celsius while Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded minimum temperatures at -1.1 and 0.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
Mercury dipped to 2.6 degrees Celsius at key tourist destination of Manali while Bhuntar in Kullu district and Sundernagar in Mandi district registered a low of 3.8 and 4.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.
Thick fog engulfed the towns along the banks of Ravi, Beas and Sutlej in the morning hours but dissipated as the day advanced.

Officials said the body of an unidentified person was
found at a bus stand and that of one Nepali national was found in a village on Tuesday. They are believed to have died due to cold.
Five migrant labourers hailing from Bihar and engaged in construction work died due to suffocation caused by carbon monoxide emitted from burning of firewood on Tuesday.
The body of a Senior Superintendent in the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Gopal Singh Kapatia (46), was found in his house in Chakker on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, two persons hailing from Uttarakhand, Ajit Sharma and Ram Sharma, were found unconscious in Amar Cottage in Toland after they inhaled carbon monoxide emitted from firewood burning last night. They were taken to a hospital by the police.
