A mild tremor measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale has been recorded in Nepal's western region following a dry landslide at the base of Mount Annapurna.
The earthquake was caused by a huge dry landslide in the Mount Annapurna region yesterday, 400 km North-west of Kathmandu and not by the movement of underground tectonic plates, according to geologists at Nepal Seismological Centre.
It was a tremor, not an earthquake, the official said.
It was recorded by the seismological stations of NSC located in Pokhara in Kaski district, Myagdi and Mustang, he said.
There was no causality from the incident.
However, five villagers of Myagdi district, who went missing after the incident were later rescued by the police.
They said they saved their life by hiding inside a small cave near the site, Home Ministry spokesperson Yadav Koirala told PTI.
It is presumed that the last year April's devastating earthquake could have developed crack on the hill, which had now fallen creating a tremor.
Dust particles were spreading in seven village development committees in Myagdi district for the last two days following the landslide, he added.
