Dry weather in most parts of HP as monsoon remains weak

Barring sporadic rains at isolated places, weather remained dry in Himachal Pradesh amid a weak monsoon in the state.
The region received average 283 mm rains against normal rainfall of 301 mm, a deficit of 26 per cent from June 1 to July 21 even as nine out of 12 districts had deficit monsoon rains ranging between 11 and 83 per cent, MeT officials said.
Solan was the only district to receive 19 per cent excess rainfall, they said.
The local MeT had been predicting rains and thundershowers at isolated places in the state for past one month but the rains are not uniform and deficit was 83, 60, 53 and 22 per cent in Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Sirmaur districts, respectively.
Rains lashed isolated places in the state since yesterday and Baldwara and Jogindernagar received 41 mm and40 mm rains, followed byPandoh (22 mm), Gaggal (17 mm), Mandi (14 mm), Dharmashala (13 mm), Sundernagar and Baijnath (both 8 mm)and Bajura (7 mm).
There was no significant change in the maximum day temperatures and people reeled under sultry heat in the lower hills with Una recording a high of 35.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar (34.7), Sundernagar (33) Nahan (30.3), Solan (29.4), Dharamshala(28.8), Manali (26.6), Shimla (26.1) and Kalpa (25).
Kalpa and Keylong in tribal Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts were coldest in the region with minimum temperatures at 12.6 and 13.1 degrees Celsius, respectively, followed by Manali (15), Dharamsala and Shimla (both 16.8), Palampur (20) and Una (25).
The Met office has predicted rains or thundershowers at isolated places across the state during next six days from tomorrow onwards.
