Delhi government will add 1380 new buses to the existing fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) in its bid to strengthen the transport service in the national capital.
"Government is working hard to provide cheap, comfortable and safe transport facilities to the people of Delhi. DTC will add 1380 new non-AC buses to its existing fleet," Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today said while addressing a gathering at Chhatrasal Stadium on Independence Day here.
He also said that for the comfort of women passengers, 26 Ladies Special Buses have been deployed in the national capital.
"Today, Delhi enjoys a metro network of 190 km and 35 per cent of the work relating to proposed Phase-3, 103 km long corridor has already been completed," Jung said.
Apart from 1,380 DTC buses, Delhi would also get an additional 400 cluster buses in the current fiscal year.
In the Delhi Budget, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely had allocated Rs 3,702 crore for the transport sector in Delhi during 2014-15.
There is a requirement for 11,000 public transport buses in Delhi and, as per an agreement between DTC and DIMTS, both are mandated to run 5,500 buses each in the city.
While DTC currently operates around 5,000 buses, DIMTS has only 1,157 cluster buses, which is 4,343 less than the required 5,500 as per the commitment.
