Duo posing as cops rape woman

Two persons, who masqueraded as policemen, allegedly abducted and raped a woman while she was talking to her friend near here, police said today.
The two men in police uniform accosted the two, who were talking to each other at a deserted place on the Karaikudi-Pudukottai road last evening.
They questioned them and took the woman forcibly from the place after beating up her companion.
The man contacted the nearby Chettinad police station in panic. Police told him no one from their station was on patrol duty in the area.
Meanwhile, the two persons dropped the woman at Karaikudi new bus stand early today.

Police rescued her and during investigation they found that the woman had been raped, police said, adding that a search was on for the duo.
