DySP gets 10 years in jail for raping Dalit girl

A deputy superintendent of police was today sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping a Dalit minor girl in Kanpur two years ago.
SC/ST court judge Shriprakash sent deputy SP Amarjeet Shahi to jail for ten years and charged a fine of Rs 65,000 for raping the girl during his posting in Kanpur in 2012.
Shahi was suspended with immediate effect after the incident. He was lodged in jail for 18 months and later released on bail.
The accused was held guilty on charges of abduction and rape under the SC and SC Act on August 14 and the court had said it would pronounce the quantum of sentence on August 16.
