In a step aimed to increase voter's turnout in April 10 Lok Sabha polls in the national capital, Delhi Election Commission is sending SMS to voters exhorting them to cast their votes.
"Delhi goes to polls on 10th April 2014 (7 AM to 6 PM)! Don't forget to exercise your right - CEO Delhi," read the text message sent through SMS to Delhi's residents today.
This new initiative is a part of series of awareness programmes being carried out by the Office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to increase voting percentage in the Lok Sabha elections.
To motivate urban voters, the commission has organised a number of musical concerts inviting Bollywood stars, singers and comedians in the last few weeks, besides organising quiz camps and exhibitions.
Over 1.2 crore voters including over 70 lakh men and 56.5 lakh women will exercise their franchise on April 10 for seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi.
As many as 150 candidates including Kapil Sibal, Harsh Vardhan, Rajmohan Gandhi, Manoj Tiwari, Ajay Maken and Rakhi Birla are in the poll fray.
