Major falls off ridge, sustains fatal head injury

An army officer died today after he slipped off a ridge during an anti-militancy operation in south Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
Major Rahul Singh sustained fatal head injury when he fell down 10 to 15 metres off the ridge during the search operation launched by the Rashtriya Rifles in General area Panchalthan, he said.
The Major suffered the fall due to extreme slippery terrain conditions compounded by inclement weather, the spokesman said.
Major Singh, who had nine years of service in the army, is survived by his wife and a 2-year-old daughter.
