The East Central Railway (ECR) has decided to prosecute people defecating, throwing garbage or trespassing on railway land and tracks to check spread of filth.
A decision to launch a special drive against people indulging in such acts was taken and a message has been send by General Manager Madhuresh Kumar to all five divisions, an ECR release said here today.
Danapur, Mughalsarai, Sonepur, Dhanbad and Samastipur divisions come under the ECR.
The Divisions have been directed to take action under section 147 of the Railway Act which has provisions of lodging FIR against such persons who defaecate railway property, the release quoting Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Arvind Kumar Rajak said.
As per the Act such persons can be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with a fine which may extend to Rs 1,000 or with both, he said.
The decision to launch a special drive in the ECR was taken following a directive from the Railway Board to all railway zones.
The GM in his directive has emphasised on spreading awareness among people in this regard and also construction of toilets with the help of state government, the CPRO added.
