The accused Rajkumar Yadav alias Mantu Yadav of Gaya is younger brother of RJD leader Surendra Yadav, who is party nominee from Jehanabad seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
The attached property includes 15 plots of land, three houses, one market complex, several bank accounts and LIC policies, ED sources said.
Mantu has already been arrested and charge-sheeted by Economic Offence Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police in the hooch tragedy case of Gaya in December 2012. Twenty persons had died after consuming spurious liquor then. He is also an accused in several cases of murder and extortion.
While most of his assets are in Gaya, Mantu also owns two palatial houses in Dehradun. Their registered value has been shown to be just 19 lakh, but market price would be several times more.
"This attachment order by the ED means Mantu was not able to explain the source of his income or wealth. ED must have thoroughly investigated the case before attaching his movable and immovable assets," said EOU IG Praveen Vashista.
In another case, the ED attached assets worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to Chandan Kumar, an accused in the fake cheque scam case. He and other gang members withdrew several crores of rupees from various government and private bank accounts by using fake cheques and forged signatures.
Chandan's attached property includes two flats in Raj Lakshmi Enclave and Park View Apartment located on Boring Road, two costly cars and a flat that he had booked in New Delhi for Rs 58 lakh.
