Edinburgh university celebrates India and South Asia week

For the first time, India's vibrant culture and rich heritage have been on full display here at the Edinburgh University as part of 'India and South Asia week' celebration.
The week-long celebration began yesterday with a vibrant dance and music performance by Edinburgh's 'Bhangra' crew and a 'qawwali' group led by singer Farooq Khan.
Mahatma Gandhi's grandson and scholar Gopalkrishna Gandhi will deliver a talk on 'India Yesterday, India Today' on the birth anniversary of the father of the nation tomorrow.
"India being not just a nation of but civilisation, India Day has to be more about more than a country and its people. And its celebration has to be about more than a paean to its glory.

"It has to be a searching of India's soul to see why its yesterdays, flawed as they are, seem to have a moral dimension that today is looking for," said Gandhi, adding he is looking forward to his talk.
Economist Lord Meghnad Desai will address the students on 'India in South Asia: the Unfinished agenda'.
The event features an photo exhibition by Hermann Rodrigues, a leading documentary and travel photographer whose work depicts the integration of Asian ethnic groups who have migrated to Scotland.
The event has been organised by the Centre for South Asian studies, the South-Asian students association and the University's International office.
