EDMC launches dedicated helpline for school teachers

Teachers of municipal schools in east Delhi will now be able to engage with a dedicated team of experts and subject matter specialists over a new toll-free helpline, which was launched here on Children's Day.
The helpline 1-800 11 2028, launched by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) in collaboration with Tech Mahindra Foundation (TMF), seeks address the issues of teaching and learning in its schools.
It would assist teachers with the everyday challenges that they face in classrooms. They would also be exposed to a plethora of subject matter and pedagogical resources, which would equip them to be more professional and competent educators, East Delhi Mayor Meenakshi said.

EDMC directly runs 390 primary schools in the East Delhi area, which cater to over 224,000 children, taught by around 5600 teachers.
TMF had signed a memorandum of understanding with EDMC to develop a model In-Service Teacher Education Institute (ITEI) in a public-private-partnership mode, earlier in April 2013.
In the past 18 months, the institute has trained over 900 teachers and 220 principals, and the helpline for teachers would be a part of the institute, TMF said in a statement.
The fully-functional helpline would engage closely with teachers by establishing an active, real-time, continuous dialogue about education at school level.

The helpline will significantly extended the outreach of ITEI by breaking barriers of time, space and distance that often limit frequent, large-scale training sessions and marks the beginning of the integration of cost-effective ICT-enabled services into the work of the institute, it said.
