Social problems like crimes against women can be tackled better by bolstering the country's education system, NRI industrialist and Chancellor of University of Wolverhampton Lord Paul today said.
Paul, who was honoured by the Punjabi community for his contribution to society, said the University would focus on enhancing education ties with India.
"We need to improve our education because whenever a question of rape comes or anything else (crimes), all these problems can only be tackled by education," Paul told PTI on the sidelines of an event organised by World Punjabi Organisation here.
Universities should not only focus on education but also collaborate with businesses, he said.
Paul, who recently met HRD Minister Smriti Irani, described the meeting as a very positive one.
The Caparo Group chairman also appreciated the role being played by those in the field of journalism in India.
At the event organised yesterday by the World Punjabi Organisation, Paul and Brijmohan Munjal, founder Director and Chairman of the Hero Group, were conferred 'Punjabi Rattan' award.
"Lots of awards I have received but an award from your own community and your own people always has a very special value," Paul said after receiving the honour.
Several eminent personalities including former Army Chief J J Singh, Lord Raj Loomba, cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit, Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali were present at the event.
