Efforts being made to knock out drug abuse: Mohindra

Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra today said the Congress government was making concerted efforts to end the menace of drug abuse and crackdown on the supply chain in the state.
He speaking at a seminar organised by the Punjab State Children Welfare Commission at the Government Medical College here.
The minister said that the state government has also formed a Special Task Force for the purpose.
Punjab witnessed an "ugly" phase during the 10 years of the SAD-BJP government. However, the Congress is resolved to save the state from drug abuse, he said.
The current dispensation has also achieved major breakthroughs in breaking the supply chain in the state, the minister claimed.
On rights of the children, Mohinder said, "It is our prime duty to protect the constitutional rights of children."
It is a matter of great concern that the negative trend of drug use among the children is on the rise. To check this, parents must be aware of the psychological, physical and social problems their children, he said.
The Congress government has earmarked Rs 174 crore for the prevention of cancer and for de-addiction, Mohinder said.
He said that 57 new drug de-addiction centers are being opened in Punjab on the PGI model.
