60-year-old Utukuri Suryanarayana and his 55-year-old wife Vijayalakshmi, who were residing alone, were found dead in the wee hours, Ongole sub divisional police officer G Srinivasa Rao said.
They had injuries on their head and Vijayalakshmi's 'Mangalsutra' (a sacred ornament worn by married woman) was missing. Prima facie, they were beaten with sharp weapons by unidentified persons, he said.
Their bodies were shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for postmortem.
A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered and investigations are underway, police said.
