An elderly woman from Madhya Pradesh who got separated from her companions during Ganga snan at the ongoing ardhkumbh mela in Haridwar recently was reunited today with her family by Uttarakhand Police.
65-year-old Rooprani who had come to Haridwar from a village in Sagar district along with some villagers for a dip in the Ganga on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya on February 8 got separated from her companions in the milling crowds which had converged on the banks of the river for the occasion, PRO DIG Ardhkumbh mela Manoj Singh Negi said.
She approached the lost and found centre set up in the mela area for help.
However, despite repeated announcements made by authorities on the loudspeakers none of her companions showed up at the lost and found centre, he said.
In-charge of the lost and found centre Sub-inspector Gurupreet Rana then took the woman to IG Ardhkumbh mela G S Martolia.
The woman said she hails from a village named Dharmashri in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh.
Determined to help the elderly woman find her family, Martolia entrusted constable Pradeep Kumar with the task of escorting her to her native place.
Meanwhile, Rana spoke to Sagar DSP V K Singh who got in touch with the woman's kin and informed them about the whole matter.
Escorted by constable Pradeep Kumar, when Rooprani arrived at Sagar railway station at 2 AM today by Utkal Express, she found her grandson Ravi and other family members waiting at the railway station to receive her.
The whole family profusely thanked Uttarakhnd police for the kind and humane gesture.
