The Bharati Kisan Union has decided it will soon give a memorandum to Election Commission requesting to make the manifesto legally-binding, BKU president and former MP Bhupinder Singh Mann said here.
"...So that they (political parties) are held responsible and accountable for the promises made to the citizens while getting their votes," he said.
He said manifestos should also contain a time frame to fulfil the promises, and road map for its implementation.
Mann said that ahead of election, political parties make tall promises in manifestos to "influence and woo voters".
BKU condemned the Punjab government for allegedly refusing to pay Rs 50 per quintal for the sugarcane sold through private mills.
He also decried the Modi government for allegedly failing to take even a single step towards relieving the farmers of the high debt burden.
