Electricity meter reader held for molesting minor girl in UP's Shamli

An electricity meter reader was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl when he came to check the reading in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said.

The accused Parveen Kumar came to the teenager's house to note the electricity reading at Dandukheda village under Kandhla police station area on Saturday, Kandhla station house officer Sushil Kumar said.

According to the SHO, they have registered a case against the accused and arrested Kumar.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim's father, it is alleged that the girl was alone at home and the accused sexually harassed her. She cried and resisted his attempts when locals came to her rescue.

In another incident, a woman was sexually harassed with her dress torn by a man while she was alone at her house in Sangam Vihar locality under New Mandi police station of Shamli district on Saturday.

Police said a case was registered against the absconding accused.
