Maragan had beaten the elephant Anna, one of the senior most elepbants in Theppakkadu Elephant camp, last night, reportedly under influence of liquor.
Unable to bear the act, the elephant, took the mahout in its trunk and hurled down, leading to head and limb injuries to Maragan, forest department sources said today.
Hearing the screams, other mahouts and officials rushed there and rescued Maragan and admitted to the Gudalur Government Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, they said.
