Elephant dies in Kaziranga National Park

The carcass of an adult female elephant was recovered today from Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam, forest officials said.
The carcass of the elephant with its tusks intact was spotted by a patrolling forest guards at Paschim Dimali in the Bagori Range of the World Heritage Site, KNP officials said.
Veterinary doctors conducted post-mortem on the pachyderm and it was said to have died of natural causes. The carcass would be buried at the site where it was found, they said.
Six elephant deaths have been reported from different parts of the state this month with a bullet-riddled carcass from Arunachal Pradesh found floating in Siang river near the inter-state border on Saturday.

Earlier on July 10, the body of an adult jumbo was found by the local people in Karbi Anglong district with its tusks taken away by poachers, who also cut its trunk and left it a little distance away from the body.
The day before, an elephant calf died in Nagaon district and an adult mammoth was electrocuted in Udalguri district.
On July 8, two tuskers were electrocuted in Nagaon district while another elephant met the same fate on July 6.
