An elephant today trampled a man to death in Khuttimari forest near Dhupguri town here, officials said.
The incident occurred when the victim, who was riding a cycle, was attacked by the animal while he was crossing a forested area in the wee hours, Divisional Forest Officer Sunita Ghatak said.
The elephant was suspected to have strayed from a herd of about 45 elephants moving around the near-by Haldibari tea garden, she said, adding the forest guards recovered the body.
