Encounter deaths: HC rejects plea for re-postmortem of Maoists

The Kerala High Court today dismissed a petition seeking re-postmortem of the bodies of two Maoists killed in an alleged encounter in Nilambur forests in Malappuram district recently.
The court agreed with the state government's submission that the postmortem of the bodies of Kuppu Devarajan and Kaveri alias Ajitha was conducted by a team of doctors with sufficient experience in the field.
Petitioner D Sreedharan alleged that his brother Devarajan was killed in a fake encounter last month after he was caught alive.
He also claimed the postmortem was conducted by junior doctors and demanded a team of experts re-conduct the postmortem.
The bodies of Maoists are preserved at the Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.
Earlier, the Manjeri Sessions court had also rejected the plea seeking re-postmortem of the bodies of the Maoists, who were killed during a combing operations by the police on a tip-off that the ultras were camping in the forest area.
