The two countries enjoy "historic bilateral relations" and there is a room to expand trade, to cooperate on energy, agriculture and education through strategic partnership, Oliver said.
He said: The Canada-India friendship is also one of unrealised potential. It has the ingredients to be one of the greatest partnerships for both our countries.
Describing India to be emerging as an "Asian giant", Oliver said that the cooperation between the two countries will create jobs and benefit both the economies.
Referring to the Canada-India Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, Oliver said that it had opened up a multi-billion dollar opportunity for Canada to sell uranium and nuclear supplies and services to India.
"This is a part of our strong complementary interests in the energy sector. We need to diversify our markets and India wants to diversify its sources of supply, including with Canada secure and reliable friend," the minister said.
Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister for Multiculturalism received ICCC President's award for 2014 for his outstanding contributions in promoting bilateral ties between the two countries.
