Opposition AIADMK (Amma) today called on the territorial government to take necessary steps to ensure smooth admission process for the PG courses in private medical colleges across the Union Territory.
AIADMK (Amma) Legislature wing leader A Anbalagan told reporters that the government had already faced several hurdles in the process of selection of students under State government quota to PG courses in private medical colleges and deemed universities here.
The same should not happen during the admissions to private medical colleges, he said in reference to the "ongoing tussle" between Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and the V Narayanasamy-led government on selection of students for PG medical courses during the current academic year through CENTAC.
The CENTAC should come out with fool-proof arrangements in the larger interest of students and ensure that 50 per cent quota of seats under government quota were available to students in first MBBS course in seven medical colleges and deemed universities, he added.
Anbalagan urged the government to fix the fees for the course instead of facing controversial developments subsequent to finalisation of selection list as was seen in the case of PG courses recently.
On the style of functioning of Bedi, the AIADMK leader said, the Chief Minister should arrange for a joint delegation of MLAs of Puducherry and leaders of political parties to meet the Union Home Minister to bring to his notice the "utterly objectionable" style of functioning of Kiran Bedi.
