Entrepreneur's suicide triggers protest from businessmen

The alleged suicide of a 45-year-old entrepreneur due to 'harassment' from officials triggered a protest from small and medium businessmen, who staged a dharna in front of the office of the District Industrial Officer with his body here today.

Suresh E P was found hanging from the ceiling in his office at the Industrial Estate at nearby Velli yesterday.

Meanwhile, State Industries Minister A C Moideen said the government has convened a meeting of small and medium industrialists to find a solution to their problems.

Opposition leader in the assembly Ramesh Chennithala sought a detailed probe into the circumstances that led to the suicide of the entrepreneur.

He pointed out that Suresh had frequently visited many offices to get his company registered, but in vain.

There were complaints that officials at the Industrial Estate also harassed him, Chennithala alleged.
