"Development happens wherever peace is and wherever peace is, development happens. And security personnel have an important role in maintaining it (peace)," Das said after inaugurating a three-day workshop on 'LWE Theatre Interstate Operations and Cooperation' here.
"It is essential to break the economic source of criminal organisations and Maoist outfits," he said, adding, "To root out extremism, communication and coordination were required (between security forces and the local people)."
He said the state government has been focusing on development in the LWE-affected areas and the youth in these areas would be recruited to assistant police and would be paid Rs 10,000 per month.
"After three years they would be appointed in the police department," he said, according to an official release.
He said time to time the neighbouring states should exchange information about extremists and criminal elements and stressed upon strengthening the intelligence network.
Senior Security adviser in the Union Home Ministry K Vijay Kumar said due to the cooperation of Jharkhand government, Naxalism has reduced in the state.
Officials from 10 states and four paramilitary forces are taking part in the workshop.
CRPF DGP K Durga Prasad, Jharkhand DGP D K Pandey, CRPF ADGP Sudeep Lakhtakia and other senior officers were also present at the workshop.
