Members of about 86 families, evicted from a sugar mill compound here following a court order, have written to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking permission to kill themselves.
A member of an evicted family said that they were removed from the compound around a month ago after a court ruled against them.
Facing an uncertain future, the family members have written to the District Magistrate, Superintended of Police and the President seeking alternative arrangements or permission to kill themselves.
Asked about the matter last week, Union Coal Minister and MP from Kanpur Shriprakash Jaiswal refused to comment, saying the matter had been decided by court.
