Vivekanand (61) is survived by wife and two children.
Hailing from Ottappalam in Palakkad district of Kerala, he was a prominent journalist in the gulf region and had covered almost every armed conflict in the middle east in the last two decades.
A recipient of the 1997 'Journalist of the Year Award' by the Tokyo-based International Journalists Congress for his outstanding contribution to the international media from the middle east, he had also worked as the Editor of the 'Jordan Times. He had covered Iran-Iraq war, Palestine agitation and unrest in Somalia.
