The accused Manjeet Sangwan, an ex-Delhi cop, was arrested by a Crime Branch team supervised by DCP Bhisham Singh, during a raid at a flat of New Town Heights of Sector 91 in Gurgaon on October 4, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner(Crime Branch) of Police.
Sangwan had started a readymade garments business in 2008 and sold clothings through his brand 'Criston Dior Shoppe' copying the famous French fashion label Christian Dior. Several outlets of his brand were opened in different cities, said the officer.
Afer being released from jail, Sangwan contested election and became Sarpanch of his village Kharman in Haryana's Jhajjar.
In 2013, he was declared proclaimed offender in the case against him for for evading court proceedings.
The same year, he and his partner Virender Suyal induced several investors to invest in his brand and cheated them to the tune of crores of rupees. A case was registered in this connection at Economic Offences Wing(EOW) police station against the duo, the officer said.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that his father was martyred in the war of 1965.
He also said that he had joined Delhi Police after completing class X, as a constable(driver) in 1989 but left the job due to personal reasons in 1996.
