"Owing to the protest and the festive rush, traffic in south Delhi was affected in the evening as family members kept her body on the road and protested. There were long tailbacks and it was gridlocked," said a senior police officer.
The protesters blocked a road in the area for over four hours.
Family members alleged that the deceased, Anita, was being "mentally and physically" harassed by her in-laws. However, her in-laws denied the allegations and claimed that it was a case of suicide.
Police said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered and a case would be registered based on the report. No suicide note was recovered from the house.
According to Anita's family, on October 22, she had called her father to inform about a fight with her husband following which her brother and her father had reached the house at Katwariya Sarai in Vasant Vihar and offered to take her back home.
However, Anita had told them that she would try to resolve the issue. Yesterday, her husband informed her father that she had committed suicide.
