During the protest, Joint Action Committee, a social organisation comprising of locals and farmers, set ablaze the effigy of Punjab government and demanded that the girl be handed over to the family.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has not even cared to visit the girl's residence to console the parents, Joint Action Committee Convener Shivinerpal Singh said.

The organisation will decide the next course of action on October 26 in Bathinda, he said adding, people were disappointed with the mishandling of the case by police.

A 15-year-old girl, a Class X student, was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from Faridkot on September 24 in full public view one Nishan Singh and his accomplices.

Punjab police recovered the girl from Goa and arrested the kidnapper on Sunday.

She was produced in a local court and was sent to Nari Niketan yesterday.

Police sources confirmed that 15 out of the 17 accused in the case have been arrested.
