"Manoj Malviya, aged around 30, committed suicide by consuming salfas tablets at his farm in Mendarpara village of Bhensan taluka of Junagadh district," Head constable V D Desai of Bhensan taluka police station told PTI.
"He took the extreme step due to crop failure and increasing debt on him. Besides, his family-members said that he was distressed due to present situation which led him to kill self," he added.
Malviya's brother Chandresh told reporters that crop-failure led his brother to commit suicide.
"He consumed salfas tablets last night in his field and ended his life," Chandresh added.
Meanwhile, police have sent his body for post-mortem and initiated probe in the case, Desai said.
