Farmer killed by Naxals in Gadchiroli; arms seized

Maoists allegedly killed a 45- year-old man on suspicion he was a police informer, while arms and ammunition were seized after an exchange of fire with Naxals in separate incidents in Gadchiroli district.
Lalsu Kundi Atram, a farmer from Bejur village, was killed last night, Gadchiroli police PRO told PTI.
Around 8 to 10 ultras entered the village and disrupted a function. They forcibly took away Lalsu, who they suspected was a police informer, and killed him, he said.
In a separate incident, police seized arms and ammunition after an exchange of fire with Naxals.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of Maoists was hiding in Nadekel village of the district, police launched an operation on Sunday night to nab them, an official release said today.

A team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Maheshwar Reddy surrounded the village. A gun battle broke out at around 11 pm when the Naxals came out of the village and fired at the policemen, it said.
There was no casualty on the either side and the rebels managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the release said.
Police later recovered two rifles, magazines, 16 live cartridges, one Claymore mine, medicines, books anddaily use items from the encounter spot, it added.
