The suicide by a farmer, who hung himself in full public view at an Aam Aadmi Party rally here, reflects the "extreme distress" being faced by the farming community, CPI said today.
"The incident shows the extreme distress faced by farmers. The Narendra Modi government should defer the Land Acquisition Bill and concentrate on addressing the immediate problems of farmers whose crops have been destroyed by unseasonal rains," CPI leader D Raja said here.
Raja, who visited the hospital where post-mortem on the farmer's body was carried out, condoled the death and asked the government to pay adequate compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
The farmer, Gajendra Singh, a father of three from Dausa in Rajasthan, today committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in full public view in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at an Aam Aadmi Party rally close to Parliament House here.
