The 43-year-old singer called the song a "blessing" for him and said he feels grateful to frequent collaborators -- "Haider" director Vishal Bhardwaj and lyricist Gulzar for his win.
"This song is a blessing for me. It has given me reward, love and turned my attention towards music to another level. I am thankful to the song and to Vishal and Gulzar. "Bismil" is very special to me," Sukhwinder told PTI in an interview after the awards were announced.
"This song is my 'riyaz' and this is because the day I recorded it, I told Vishal, 'From now, my practice will be doubled.' It is that great a song. I must give it the title of real Indian opera," he said.
Sukhwinder said he got to know about the win from Bhardwaj while he was practising 'Dhan te' for a concert.
