The Shiv Sena today said filmmakers cannot "distort" and present history, a day after the set of Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film "Padmavati" was vandalised.
"Define what liberty, freedom are first. Be it history, book, movie, drama...Maharani Padmavati, who fought against injustice... You are portraying wrong things about her.
"Sentiments of people get hurt (by this)...You cannot distort and present history," Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut told reporters here.
Stating that filmmakers have always enjoyed freedom in the country, Raut said that the concepts of liberty and freedom of speech have to be first defined.
Referring to clerics allegedly issuing 'fatwa' (edict) against 16-year-old Assamese singer Nahid Afrin, Raut said the country is standing by the teenager.
"But how many of the Bollywood bigwigs are standing by her? Where are Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali?" he sought to know.
Clerics in Assam have allegedly issued fatwa against Nahid, asking her to stay away from music programmes as it is "against sharia".
Around 20 unidentified people torched the costumes and the animal feed kept there for the horses featuring in the period drama yesterday.
