Bollywood Director Imitiaz Ali has trashed the notion that Bollywood movies were responsible for the ills taking place in the society.
"I am surprised to note that Bollywood as well Indian films are being blamed for every ills going on in the country," Ali said here while taking part in a panel discussion on 100 years of Indian Cinema organised by Centre of Excellence, Tata Steel and city-based film society Celluloid Chapter last night.
"Films have never glorified ills in the society including rape," the director of the hit Hindi movie "Jab We Met" said adding nobody like villains, who commit rape in a film.
All films depict good emerging victor and the villain being punished, he said.
Ali said cinema was the most influential vehicle, more than religious or anything of our life and we can not relate the world without cinema today.
The movies are mostly accessible and easy to understand the code of moral conduct, Ali, who has made five films and working on his sixth venture, said
The director admitted that cinema was the most expensive form of art and mass-based form of communication.
Besides Ali, directors Vikramaditya Motwane, Ashoke Vishwanathan, theatre personality and Ad guru Alyque Padashee and Ira Bhaskar, Professor, Cinema Studies and Dean of Jawaharlal Nehru University also spoke on the 100 years of Indian Cinema.
