Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that 109 candidates have been elected unopposed. Of the above 44 candidates were from Mangaluru taluk. The remaining 65 candidates were from Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur taluks in the district, he said in an official release.
Elections would be held to 3,288 seats of the total 3,399 seats. No nominations have been filed for two seats in Malluru gram panchayat in Mangaluru taluk.
In neighbouring district Udupi 4,740 candidates are contesting the elections. A total of 272 candidates had been elected unopposed in the district. The counting of votes will take place on June 5.
