: Members of the press fraternity here lodged an FIR today against two academicians of National Institute Technology (NIT) for allegedly saying that newspersons demanded money to write in favour of them.
Their remarks were allegedly taped by students during a meeting and circulated on social media, a joint release by the Arunachal press organizations said here today.
A team of media persons, led by Arunachal Press Club (APC) President Chopa Cheda, visited the NIT today to inquire about the incident.
Soon after the visit, they filed a complaint against assistant registrar Taba Tadhe and assistant professor Dr Swarnendu Kumar Chakraborty with Doimukh police station, police said.
An official of Doimukhi police station said the complainants had been asked to submit a copy of the clip for further investigation into the matter.
"If they have evidence (of journalist asking for money), they should prove it. Leveling a blatant allegation against media fraternity without any substance is highly condemnable and uncalled for," Cheda said.
The fraternity, in its joint FIR, had sought the help of police to find out the truth.
"We are ready to accept criticisms but it should be based on facts and figures," he added.
The APC, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) made an appeal to people here to report incidents where a journalist asks for money to write about anything.
