FIR would be lodged under the Essential Commodities Act in case of delivery of underweight cylinders, the Delhi government said today.
The department of Food Supplies and Weight and Measures took up a drive to check illegal refilling of gas cylinders, illegal sale of small LPG Cylinders, sale of under-weight gas cylinders and diversion of domestic LPG cylinder by the delivery boys of the gas agency for commercial use.
In a crackdown against black-marketing of fuel, following complaints, the department also seized 15,000 litres of kersone oil, the sale of which is banned as per law.
Nine teams consisting of members from the Food Supplies and Weight and Measures Department were deployed in district North, South West, West, Central, South, East, North East, North West and New Delhi.
"A total of 11 challans were issued on ground of short weight of gas cylinders and non availability of verification certificates under Legal Metrology Act.
"Ten small cylinders for the purpose of illegal refilling alongwith 4 LPG domestic cylinders were seized by the inspecting team in Choukhandi, Tilak Nagar. FIR in the matter in accordance with the Essential Commodities Act,1955 has been lodged," an official statement said.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas(Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order 2000 issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 bans unauthorised possession, supply and consumption of LPG, as well as unauthorised storage and transport of LPG.
The business of filling LPG in small cylinders from big cylinders is not only illegal but also very dangerous and may lead to explosions and fire accidents. On conviction, the accused may face imprisonment upto a period of 7 years.
"The department is also writing a letter to Oil/Gas companies to give wide publicity that consumers should check the weight of gas cylinders before taking delivery. Delivery boy should also invariably carry Identity card issued by the Gas Company and certified weighing machines/scales at the time of delivery of gas cylinders.
"In future, FIRs would be lodged in underweight cylinder delivery cases under Essential Commodities Act, 1955," the statement added.
