The fire broke out at around 4.50 AM. It destroyed stocks of footwear, raw material and machines in the factory causing damage running into several lakhs, police said.
The fire started at the top floor of the three-storeyed factory building. Short circuit was believed to be the reason behind the fire although the exact cause of it will be known after investigation, police said.
The fire fighters struggled for hours and finally doused the flames around 9.20 am, said a Fire Service official.
The workers of the footwear factory as well as those in nearby factories were evacuated to prevent any casualty. After bringing the fire under control, fire fighters launched cooling operation which continued till the afternoon.
