A fire broke out at a Tata Power facility in north west Delhi today, close to the Badli grid, damaging cables that were meant to be laid underground.
The Badli grid, which is of 75 MVA (Mega-volt Ampere) capacity, covers large areas of Badli and Rohini, a Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (TPDDL) official said.
Although the fire, reported around 12 PM, did not affect the grid and power supply was not hit, it gutted around 30-35 drums containing cables stored for project work.
"Around 12 noon today, there was fire incidence in the area next to the boundary wall of the TPDDL Badli grid.
There were nearly 70 drums in which 66 KV cables were stored for project work.
Around 14 fire brigade vehicles were rushed," the official said.
Around 6 PM, the fire was brought under control but the area was filled with smoke.
"TPDDL Systems and safety people are there at the site. There is no impact on the grid. Impact is on the cable drums which are badly damaged," authorities said.
Tata Power caters to a populace of around 70 lakh in areas of north and north west Delhi.
