A fire broke out in central Delhi's Tibetan Market, a popular hub for woollen clothes in the wee hours today, ravaging all the stalls and destroying clothes worth crores of rupees but there was no report of any casualty.
"A call was received at 1.10 am today about a fire breaking out in Tibetan Market near Jama Masjid. Twelve fire tenders worked at the spot to douse the fire till 4 AM. No casualties were reported," said a senior officer of Delhi Fire Services.
Police has registered an FIR under section 436 IPC (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc.) and begun probe in the matter.
A senior police officer said that it is being suspected that the fire was caused due to a short-circuit.
"There were more than 120 stalls in the Tibetan Market where woollen clothes were stocked. Within seconds, the fire ravaged the stalls. Every stall must be having stock worth lakhs of rupees and the loss is estimated to be in crores, added the officer.
