Five arrested for murder of elderly couple in East of Kailash

Police today claimed to have solved the sensational robbery and murder of an octogenarian couple in East of Kailash here with the arrest of five persons.
"We arrested two of the accused first and later their three accomplices were also arrested by police teams. All of them live at slums of Kaushambi in neighbouring Ghaziabad, said RS Krishnia, Joint Commissioner of Police south east range.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohammad Khalid (19), Ahmed (19), Mohammad Maqsood (19), Narender (25) and Mohammad Dilshad (24). Looted money and jewellery was also recovered from them although police was yet to receive a list of the looted items.
Manohar Lal Madan (85), a retired bank official, and his wife Vimla (80) were killed while they were asleep by the suspected robbers who entered their room on the ground floor of their house in southeast Delhi on the intervening night of November 12-13.
The robbers entered the house from the roof breaking open a store room there and then going down. They broke the lock on the staircase gate and went down and while they were searching for valuables the couple woke up, he said.
The accused overpowered them and tied their hands and feet. They also stuffed their mouths with cloth which smothered them and led to their death, the officer said.
After this they went to the first floor of the house where youngest son of the couple, Sanjay Madan (48), woke up due to flash of light on his face from the mobile phone torch used by the robbers.
The robbers escaped from the front gate of the house while Sanjay went down to check on his parents and found their hands and legs tied and their mouths were stuffed with cloth.
The post mortem of the deceased was conducted at AIIMS where cause of death was opined as 'smothering'.
Investigation by several teams led to information about two youth who were recently released from jail. Working on this input Ahmed and Mohammad Dilshad were arrested, he said.
Their three accomplices were later arrested as police used the arrested duo as bait and called them for planning their next robbery. Some jewellery, cash, screw driver and iron rod were recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused "accepted their involvement" in the robbery cum murder at East of Kailash, the police said.
