Four members of a gang, which was allegedly hired to commit a murder near here, were arrested along with the man who engaged them, police said today.
A pistol, five bullets and other lethal weapons were seized from them when they were arrested at Uthamapalayam near here last night, police said.
Police said the arrested gangsters, who hailed from Sankarankovil in Tirunelveli district, were Ameer, Seeni Mohammed, Azharuddin and Shajahan, and Shanmugiah who allegedly engaged them to commit the murder to take revenge on those who murdered his two sons on July 5,2011.
Sankariah came to know that the five persons who murdered his sons were hiding in Anumanthanpatti and were attending proceedings at the Sankarankovil court. He was bringing the gangsters in a car when police checked their vehicle.
Sub Inspector Muthupandi seized one pistol and five bullets besides sickles and other arms from the vehicle and arrested them.
