The Manpada police under Dombivili division has registered an offence under sections 326,144,148,149,323, and 504 of the IPC against the accused.
According to police, the trouble began after villagers assembled at a spot for 'Holika Dahan'---the lighting of a pyre to symbolise the cremation of evil on the eve of Holi-- on March 12, and began discussions on who would ultimately begin the ritual.
This time, two brothers from the village--Jayendra Hari Patil and Mahendra Hari Patil--expressed their desire to take forward the ritual but assembled locals pointed out that the grandson of the late Police Patil was present at the gathering and hence he should be given preference.
Enraged, some friends of the brother-duo allegedly attacked opposing locals leaving complainant Vishwas Dinkar Mhatre and his sister badly injured in the incident.
Police then booked five persons--Sukhdeo Tukaram Patil, Dyandeo Tukaram Patil, Manohar Tukaram Patil, Ramdas Ratan Patil and Subash Vasant Patil--in connection with the incident but no arrests have been made so far.
