Five houses collapsed as rain waters from Avanashi and Palladam entered the area in Tirupur, which also resulted in 300 persons being marooned by the rain waters, police said.
Tirupur, Avanashi and Palladam towns in nearby Tirupur district were experiencing heavy rains for the last couple of days necessitating the authorities to declare holiday for educational institutions today.
Meanwhile, a boulder that fell across the third hairpin bend on Valparai-Pollachi Road in this district, paralysed vehicular traffic for an hour. Cranes and earthmovers were utilised to remove the boulder and to clear the road, they said.
