"There was a clash between the supporters of two political parties in Deshapriyanagar. A police contingent has been rushed there. Five persons have been injured. We have arrested three persons in connection with the incident. Raids are on," said Niraj Singh, Police Commissioner, Barrackpore Police Commissionarate.
Former MLA and CPI(M) candidate from Kamarhati Assembly constituency Manas Mukherjee alleged that armed Trinamool Congress goons tried to disrupt a street corner meeting of Aamra Akranta, which was supported by the CPI(M).
"Around 30 of our party workers and Aamra Akranta members were injured in the attack. TMC is afraid of the outcome of the polls and that is why they are desperately trying to disrupt the entire democratic process," the CPI(M) leader said.
Trinamool Congress North 24 Parganas district leadership refused to comment on the incident.
