Following complaints of two-wheelers getting stolen in West Mambalam, Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, a special team was formed. The team in plainclothes kept vigil on an arterial road in Thiyagaraya Nagar and caught a man red handed while he was allegedly trying to steal a motorcyle using a fake key.
Questioning revealed the role of the other four and all of them were nabbed, police said in a release.
The gang after stealing the bikes would sell them to unsuspecting customers, convincing them that the two wheelers had been seized by banks for non-payment of dues.
